Our team led by Dr M. J Abdullahi (Convener/CEO) had exploratory meeting with the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN) today, the 27th of January 2021.
The MDCN team was led by Dr Gbenro (Deputy Registrar/Head of Planning, Research and Statistics). Also, in attendance was Mrs Ruth Atuluku (ACSPA)
The Objective of the meeting was to explore and identify areas of partnership and collaboration towards promoting Healthcare Integrity in Nigeria.
The Concept Note on Promoting Healthcare Integrity Programme (HIP): Campaign for Providers’ Accountability and Health Consumers’ Rights was presented by Dr M. J Abdullahi and extensively discussed.
The Presentation highlighted that deaths due to deficits in Provider Accountability and Consumer Rights in Healthcare (PACRinH) in Nigeria are staggeringly high.
The meeting achieved consensus on strengthening Continuing Professional Development/Training of medical professionals particularly on Leadership, Management and Governance (LMG) Processes and practices, Clinical Governance and Medical Ethics amongst others.
The need for subsequent more inclusive meeting with other relevant departments including medical education and registration is to be kept in view.
